The highest special pension in Romania is received by a magistrate and amounts to nearly 70,000 lei per month—or no less than 14,000 euros—according to data from the National Public Pension House (CNPP), as reported by Antena 3 on Monday, September 22. Only 30% of the amount comes from contributions, with the remainder covered by the state budget.
As if what they already receive were not enough, judges are compelling the Romanian state to pay them whatever amount they desire in the form of salary arrears. The High Court of Cassation and Justice initiated the lawsuit against the Government, and it is the very same court that is hearing the appeal (!):
