Romania is a NATO member country and a full member of the European Union. All internal and external polls have consistently shown that Romania is a country with a pro-NATO, pro-EU and categorically anti-Russian orientation since the fall of communism.
Although we have a war on the border and the security situation is becoming critical and exactly when the Republic of Moldova has strongly confirmed its European path, the official Romanian media promotes political analysts with pro-Russian views who deny Romania's pro-NATO and pro-EU orientation and openly criticize Romania's rapprochement with the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, Romania's foreign policy and the activity of President Nicusor Dan .
"Radu Enache , a political communication specialist, claims that Romanians' dissatisfaction with Nicușor Dan's actions in foreign policy has several explanations. One of them is the population's skepticism towards the military aid granted to Ukraine (sn) .
"Nicușor Dan does not have approval for foreign policy for several reasons. We are very close to the front line, Romania, although historically it does not love the Russians, is a country with less resentment towards Russia than Poland and, on the other hand, it is a country much less inclined to go to war (sn). Moreover, if we remember, the last major wars in which Romania participated left with very high losses of human lives. (...) From this point of view, Romania does not look favorably on the bellicose policy of the EU (sn) and especially, an unconditional alignment of Romania with this European policy (sn) , "Enache declared for Ziare.com .
The Republic of Moldova is another foreign policy priority for Nicușor Dan, in addition to Ukraine, the analyst also emphasizes.
"One may ask what is the role of the Republic of Moldova in this story. Some may believe that if Romania supports Ukraine and the Russian Federation is forced to sue for peace, then a greater Romania will be restored, with the territory of the Republic of Moldova. My opinion is that no, obvious from a historical perspective.
On the other hand, we cannot forget that more than a year ago, Mrs. Maia Sandu had a trip to Mr. Bolojan, in Bihor, at that time president of the County Council. We also cannot omit the fact that Mr. Nicușor Dan has visited the Republic of Moldova many times, clearly supporting the current president in the perspective of the parliamentary elections that will take place on Sunday. We also cannot omit the fact that Mr. Bolojan, the one with whom Mrs. Sandu consulted, became interim president and, subsequently, head of the Government. There are some evidences that cannot be passed off as coincidences or as a lack of significance "(sn), the political analyst also specified.
In the public image, Nicușor Dan lacks strategic thinking and honesty, Radu Enache believes.
" What President Dan lacks is a well-thought-out, coherent, serious foreign policy, with a well-established objective, perhaps this strategy, vision. The President also stated that Romania has no strategy. But we can say that, even if he has no strategy, President Dan lacks honesty in his public image (sn). This is given the fact that he spoke about 'Honest Romania' in his campaign for the presidential elections " (sn), commented Radu Enache, for Ziare.com ."
