Romania's landscape reminds me of where I grew up, a few Kilometres East of Seattle, Washington, in America. The flooding and fog was never that bad, even in Autumn, but it really hit the same noted of "Trees, dirt, rain, and sometimes mountains." This video is absolutely beautiful, not unlike your other videos, and it's somewhat Uncanny to see abandoned churches in a place that looks like my home!

The church surrounded by fir trees, from about 26:00 min. mark: what he reads in romanian it's not (so) old romanian, it's the words we have today, only a few letters different here and there. The translation you asked for: "This cross is for the servant of God Draia Ioan, died at 37 years old, at 3 nov 1959" (just the regular things you write on somebody's cross or funeral stone). About the old books you found at 32:00: it's not a different language, it's still romanian, only the writing system it's different - the cyrillic. I am just a little bit familiar with the cyrillic and with the church service and I was still able to recognise a few words and phrases. The book it's a sort of a guide for the priest during the service: - "si acum Tatal Nostru"--> "and now Heavenly Father (the Lord's prayer)", - "rascumparatu-ne-ai pre noi" --> (praying to Jesus) "... you redeemed us" - "ectenia: Miluieste-ne pre noi, Dumnezeule" --> "the litany: "God, have mercy on us" These are the exact words in romanian, the only difference being the letters are cyrillic. 33:00 upstairs there, usually it's where the choir goes. Really interesting, finding new stuff about my own country through your video. Really good stuff. Thank you for that.

Chirillic is not a language, but an alphabet. Romanian was written in chirillic up until mid 1800s. Sad to see they left those old Holy books behind, should have been in a museum.

Awesome video, I've never been to Romania but my grandmother traveled there extensively and has a large group of friends, they have traveled to visit us in Canada and are lovely warm and friendly people. As a somewhat religious man I do thank you for respecting the churches and just showing what is there as well as respecting the graves. It is a sad thought that many of those graves may not have been visited in decades and the memories of the deceased may have been long forgotten. May they all rest peacefully with God

I am extremely happy that you came to see the beauty of our country and our people. Small note: the women are not allowed in the altar only (the separate room in front), otherwise inside men and women goes together . The balcony is for the choir.

35:25 is the place for the choire, in an Orthodox church women usually sat at the back, men, in front. Now it's women on the left, men, on the right. 32:52 it is a drain for the water used to clean the vessels after the Liturgy.

My ancestors are from the Romanian Carpathian Mountains - I’ve never been. My grandfather came to the USA when he was 22 in 1922. This video was very intriguing!

People seem to be very trusting in Romania. Not sure that everywhere people would be like "sure, guys who walk up to my house in the middle of the woods at night, come stay with us". Also very interesting how many German Supermarkets they have there (LIDL, Penny). Great journey!

Very interesting video! I'm a Romanian living with my family in Netherlands since like 5 years now. That Albert Heijn bag carried all over the mountains in Romania adds a fun part in this video to me personally . Good video guys... Success further!!

What an adventure through beautiful and wild Romania! I would love to know more about the background of the second church - why was it built in the middle of nowhere? Was there a settlement nearby at one point or did the people always have to hike all the way out there? When was it last used? The aerial shots also revealed that it is perfectly encircled by these huge trees - by purpose or chance of nature? Fascinating! And last but not least, that family and their hospitality was remarkable! A bunch of strangers walk up to their house at night and they offer you to stay - thats beautiful people! Just like the country.

The sheer trust this family showed by allowing 4-5 strangers who randomly showed up in the middle of the night to stay is a testament of how people in this region are still a high trust society, it's something we don't have in our cities for sure.

This was the best Urbex video that I have seen in a while, the churches were amazing and also the journey you took to get there with your friend Cristian made the video even better. I have lived in Florida my whole life and I am 56 so I probably will never make it to Europe or Romania and to travel with you guys through the mountains and woods of Romania and then see the amazing churches were epic, thank you! Going to check out some more of your videos, thanks again!
